This week, our endless search for worthwhile new sounds is taking us to Greece, home of Ozzy Osbourne's current lead guitarist, Gus G. (also of Firewind), as well as black metallers Rotting Christ and the intimidatingly weird Diamanda Galas. Shall we see what else is going on there?

The technical death metal band Echidna are slightly less knuckle-dragging than Furor, but they've still got hostile energy to spare. Their music has a lot in common with old school Florida tech-death bands like Death and Atheist, right down to the fretless bass, but their vocalist is a Max Cavalera-esque roarer, and the thick, punchy mix keeps the band from wandering into jazz fusion territory, like Cynic. Not all technical death metal bands remember that the "death metal" part is just as important as the "technical" part. Echidna know what's up.

Solid Greek Metal from Echidna's debut full-length album 'Manifests Of Human Existence' comes in a unique style, essentially due to the fact they have incorporated traditional Greek musical influences to further make the sound their own unique production, whilst the vocals are not the clearest, the overall effort is a decent one, the drums are ruthless and the guitars are youthless, meaning it's mature sounding, such 'Manifests Of Human Existence' should not be ignored.
